Scripture and a Snapshot - Pentecost

For this reason, ever since I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also int he one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.

She headed straight to the kitchen sink. A platter of cold meat and bread sat on the table for supper, along with a bowl of steamed dandelion greens that Patsy picked that day, but Fannie was too thirsty and exhuasted to care about eating just yet.

Recent Reads - An Artless Demise

An Artless Demise (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber - Kiera and Sebastian have moved to London, but their hopes for a quiet season are dashed when their assistance is requested in a case of murder at the hands of resurrectionists. Not long after, they stumble upon the murder of a young heir to  a title that has been made to look like the work of resurrectionists. Kiera is subjected to snubs and malicious gossip, and eventually is the target of blackmailers because of her first husband's connections to grave robbers. 

Once again, the medical knowledge Kiera gathered while being forced to draw anatomy illustrations, and her keen observation skills help in the investigation of the Mayfair murders, but two more young heirs are victims before she and Gage can figure out the possible motive and perpetrator. Meanwhile, against the backdrop of the burkers' trial, Kiera faces threats and the terror of her own past.

May's Books Completed and Reviewed

A Promise Engraved by Liz Tolsma - A dual timeline story set in San Antonio. In 1836, Josie Wilkins is motivated by a painful secret to help defend Texas as events lead towards the Battle of the Alamo. In the present day timeline, Kayleigh Hewland tracks down the history of a cats eye ring that was her mother's. The ring is what connects the two stories. (Read my full review HERE)

Recitatif: A Story by Toni Morrison - Morrison's only published short story is about two women's interactions over the years - one is black and the other is white. Racial identity is very important to both of them, but the reader is never told which is which. (Read my full review HERE)

During May I started reading:

Obedient Unto Death by Liisa Eyerly - after a young scribe is murdered during a meeting of her church, Sabina searches for information about the real killer in hopes of preventing an innocent man from being executed. I had hoped to be able to post a review by last week, but life got in the way and I had to ask for an extension on my review. It's still coming!

During May I continued reading:

An Artless Demise (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber - Kiera and Gage are back in London and start investigating a murder case that may be related to the resurrectionists recently terrorizing the city. With Kiera's past looming over them, they are in very real danger. Slow going on this book because as I mentioned above, I've had a lot keeping me busy and haven't been able to read much.
