Scripture and a Snapshot - Maundy Thursday

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Love's Fortress by Jennifer Uhlarik - Dani Sango inherits her estranged father's estate and starts to see him in a different light. As she researches the background of art from his collection she discovers a story of love and tragedy from long ago St Augustine. (Read my full review HERE)

An Artless Demise (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber - Kiera and Gage return to London but their peace is short-lived when body-snatchers and 'burkers' terrorize the city and put Kiera in danger.

A Rose For The Resistance by Angela K. Couch - During WWII in occupied France, Rosalie is focused on survival and keeping her younger brother safe even though he is involved with the resistance. A German soldier appears to be an unexpected ally, but can she really trust him?

   

Price of a Rose by Byrd Nash - In this fairy tale retelling, three sisters take over the running of a cursed estate. The middle girl, Rose, looks after the gardens and is determined to find a way to end the curse on Sir Griffin.

Scripture and a Snapshot - Palm Sunday

The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,

"Hosanna!"

"Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!"

"Blessed is the king of Israel!"

Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:

"Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;

see, your king is coming,

seated on a donkey's colt."

~John 12:12-15~

In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

The crowd was hoping for a king that would overcome the Romans. That was their idea of victory. Years later, John reminded the Church that God's plan for overcoming was different. Victory would be won by faith and by believing in Jesus as the Son of God, the Messiah. So much more than the earthly king many had expected!

The Little Women Devotional

The Little Women Devotional by Rachel Dodge - Louisa May Alcott's classic Little Women has been charming readers for generations, and there are many life lessons to be found in its pages. Marmee's patient advice to the girls as they each mature and face their individual struggles and temptations touches on many areas of daily life. This devotional is designed to explore the themes found in the book, with each devotional chapter corresponding with a chapter from Little Women. The Little Women Devotional can be read as a companion to the novel, a chapter at a time, or readers that are very familiar with the novel may read the devotional as a stand-alone as it provides enough summary of the novel's action to remind you of the story.

There's delightful original artwork to bring the lessons to life. Each devotional chapter begins with a Scripture related to the theme and a brief quote from the book, and ends with a Personal Application and short suggested prayer. Scripture is sprinkled throughout. Each devotional chapter is only a couple of pages long, and would be about the right length to read aloud with children. Along with the four March girls, readers can learn lessons about patience, forgiveness, working hard, and dealing with disappointment and heartbreak.

The end of the devotional has an invitation to become part of the family of God, with some Scripture and a suggested prayer. The book closes with a collection of some of Marmee's little nuggets of advice and encouragement.

Scripture and a Snapshot - Built On The Foundation

A Brush with Shadows (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber - Kiera accompanies Gage to his family home in Dartmoor to find out what has happened to his missing cousin. The search turns into an investigation into suspected foul play, and an opportunity for Kiera to learn more about Gage's family. (Read my full review HERE)

Lumberjacks and Ladies (a novella collection) - This is a collection of four romance novellas, all set in the 1800s, and all featuring a leading man involved in the lumber industry. (Read my full review HERE)
