September's Books Completed and Reviewed

The Winter Crown: A Novel of Eleanor of Aquitaine by Elizabeth Chadwick - A novelized account of Eleanor from her coronation as Queen of England to her imprisonment by her own husband, King Henry II.  (Read my full review HERE.)

Charity's Cross (Charles Towne Belles) (Volume 4) by MaryLu Tyndall - Charity is on her way to Charles Towne to escape a murder charge, and finds herself being rescued again and again by pirate-turned-preacher Elias. (Read my full review HERE.)

"Who are you?" She cocked the gun. "You are no preacher, Sir, for no preacher I know could have commanded this ship and beaten those pirates against such overwhelming odds."

The Pray-ers, Book One: Troubles by Mark S. Mirza - I reviewed this for the Homeschool Review Crew. It's a novel that teaches about prayer through the stories of three characters at different times in history. (Read my full review HERE.)

During September I continued reading:

The Pharaoh's Daughter: A Treasures of the Nile Novel by Mesu Andrews - I had set this novel about the Egyptian princess that adopted Moses aside for a few weeks, but recently picked it up again and am really enjoying it.

"Why haven't you named him?" When Anippe didn't answer, her sister pressed on. "I know why. You're afraid if you name him, Anubis will know he exists and take him away. But every child needs a name."

A Tapestry of Secrets by Sarah Loudin Thomas - I've loved this series from the start, and this latest installment is wonderful. Perla longs to tell the truth about her past mistakes to her daughter and granddaughter, but a couple of strokes have left her unable to speak.

And when she attempted to speak -- which had gotten a bit better but still had a long way to go -- her granddaughter understood her with ease. If only she could convey something as complex as what happened during the summer of 1948.

   

During September I started reading:

Caught in the Middle by Regina Jennings - Nicholas is on a fast track to business success when he meets Anne, who has been working as a buffalo hunter and is just as wary of society as it is of her. They form an unlikely team when Anne is unexpectedly given the care of a young child.

At least he hadn't taken on a needy, extravagant woman whose demands would run him into the poorhouse.A buffalo hunter and a baby wouldn't be nearly the burden.

During September I shelved:

The Circle of Ceridwen: Book One, by Octavia Randolph - got started on this, but just wasn't feeling it, so I set it aside for another time. It did come highly recommended from a trusted friend, so I'd like to give it another chance.
