Glory Song by Matt Redman - Review and Giveaway

This post contains affiliate links.

Glory Song by Matt Redman - For the past couple of days I've been listening to the latest CD from singer/songwriter/worship leader Matt Redman. The album is scheduled for release on September 29th, so this was a very special preview opportunity!

Redman is a well-known name in Christian music, having penned many of the worship songs popular in churches over recent years. Songs like 10,000 Reasons, Blessed Be Your Name, and Better Is One Day are among the most familiar. He has been leading worship at Passion Conferences for years, and is a founding member of Passion City Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

With this release, Redman partnered with several other worship leaders who join him on some of the cuts. Tasha Cobbs Leonard, Kierra Sheard, and Kim Walker-Smith provide beautiful harmonies on "Gracefully Broken", "All Glory", and "Place of Praise". Newcomer Madison Cunningham is featured on "Redemption Ground", which is one of my favorites on this CD. And Guvna B contributes a bit of rap to "Gospel Song". Redman's inclusion of the enthusiastic gospel choir providing background vocals, and his choice of contributing artists add gospel R&B flavor to this album on many of the songs. The theme of whole-hearted worship of God is woven throughout, and there are joyful anthems, powerful testimony songs, and several intimate songs of worship.

  1. All Glory (featuring Kierra Sheard)
  2. Gospel Song (featuring Guvna B)
  3. Greatest Hallelujah
  4. Gracefully Broken (featuring Tasha Cobbs Leonard)
  5. One Day (When We All Get to Heaven)
  6. Redemption Ground (featuring Madison Cunningham)
  7. It Is Finished
  8. Questions (You Are Faithful)
  9. Still I Will Sing
  10. Place of Praise (featuring Kim Walker-Smith)
  11. Hope Is Marching On
  12. Simple Pursuit/Glory Song
  13. Your Ways
The highlights for me include the catchy Gospel Song, which has a much-too-simple melody, but the full gospel choir and celebratory feel makes up for that. Redemption Ground is another favorite that moves from contemplating the "cross of grace" to a bold declaration of praise. One Day combines Redman's verses about the comfort of knowing that one day "we will see Your glory revealed" with a fresh take on the chorus of the familiar camp meeting hymn "When We All Get To Heaven". I absolutely love that one. "Greatest Hallelujah" also vies for a spot on my favorites list with its beautiful simple melody and accompaniment and the lyrical reminder that the greatest praise we can offer the Lord is giving him our lives.

Enjoy a preview of two of the songs from "Glory Song", and then scroll down to enter the giveaway for your own copy of this CD!

Glory Song can be purchased through Amazon or on iTunes.

Recent Reads - My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley: Lily's Dilemma

My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley: Lily's Dilemma by Andrea Boeshaar - One of the dilemmas Lily Laughlin faces is introduced in the very first pages of the book. Captain "Mac" Albright and his friend John Blake are looking over the land Mac has recently purchased, and where he plans to start farming and building his new life in hopes of distancing himself from the painful memories of being impressed into the British Navy during the recent war. In an awkward first meeting, Lily is shocked to discover that Mac now owns property she thought was hers. Lily handles the news as best she can and tries to be a gracious neighbor, and the two quickly becomes friends.

Lily has more dilemmas though - Silas Everett, who is guardian to Lily and her two younger brothers, is constantly overbearing and critical, and Lily is sure that her father would not have left him in charge of all their affairs and with so much control. If only her father's will could be found, Lily is certain that he would have left all of the farm to his children, and that Everett has no authority over them. But Everett seems to hold all the cards, and although he hasn't formally proposed, he has made it clear that he intends to marry Lily. The very thought makes her ill, but what choice does she have?

Mac fights his growing love for Lily, knowing he has little to offer her, and still haunted by his own past failures. But when her life is threatened, he realizes just how much she means to him, and he also experiences the power of prayer. But as Mac and Lily establish an understanding, Everett steps in to disrupt it and then another disaster strikes and Mac's newly constructed farm buildings go up in flames.

This story drew me in from the first pages, and was very compelling. I loved the setting and the characters - all but Everett, of course! However, I thought the plot elements of the missing will fell short a few times, and especially when it came to Everett's claims that he held the deed to the Laughlin property. At one point, Lily demanded that Everett show her the deed or title that he claimed to have, and when he put her off, she said she would visit the solicitor to view it. This was never done, and it seemed illogical to me that it hadn't been done immediately upon Lily's discovery that Everett had sold "her" land to Mac. I found this aspect of the story to be inconsistent, but it didn't take away from the overall pleasure of reading this delightful novel.

From the publisher:

Journey into the Shenandoah Valley of 1816 where . . .
With Very Little Left of the Family Farm, Lily May be Forced into a Loveless Marriage.

Captain McAlister "Mac" Albright has purchased land in the Shenandoah Valley. However, the land belongs to Lilyanna Laughlin -- or so she erroneously thinks. Mac sets her straight and despite a poor start, the two become friends . . . if only he were financially stable enough to offer her more.

When Lily's life is threatened and his whole future goes up in flames, Mac truly becomes a man without means, and Lily is forced to make the impossible choice between a loveless marriage with a man twice her age or the man who has shown her what true love could be. How can she choose between love and economic security? Her family is depending on her. Is her heart destined to break?

Journey into Virginia's Shenandoah Valley of 1816 where a woman's dreams and future happiness are on the line.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Scripture and a Snapshot - Come Into the Light

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

Recent Reads - The Princess Spy

This post contains affiliate links.

The Princess Spy by Melanie Dickerson - This was the final novel included in the Fairy Tale Romance collection I have, and I must admit that I expected that it would also be based on a familiar fairy tale. So in the back of my mind, as I was reading, I kept trying to figure out which one. Spoiler alert - unlike the others in this collection, it's not based on a fairy tale. It does, however, have a fairy tale setting and some plot elements, and it is related to the previous books in this collection.

Margaretha is the younger sister of Valten (the hero of The Captive Maiden) and Gabe (the hero of The Fairest Beauty), and in case you missed it, they are the children of the romantic duo from The Healer's Apprentice. Margaretha is the oldest daughter in the family, and is of marriageable age, but so far she has rejected all of her suitors in hopes of finding a love match like her parents and brothers have done. As the story opens an Englishman, Lord Claybrook, is hoping to win her approval, and although she doesn't like him, she has no concrete reason to turn him down and feels that perhaps she will have to settle for the match.

Enter another Englishman, Colin. He is brought to the castle after having been badly beaten, and since he only speaks English, Margaretha is one of the very few people that can communicate with him as he recovers. Colin and Margaretha establish a friendship as she begins teaching him some German and translates for him, but at first she wonders if his mind has been affected by his injuries and he worries that her talkativeness means she can't keep secrets or have discernment. And he has good reason to need her to keep his secret - it's none other than Lord Claybrook's men that attacked him, and it's Lord Claybrook that Colin is following and hoping to bring to justice. Colin wants to speak to Margaretha's father and warn him of the danger Claybrook poses, but that never seems to work out, so eventually he trusts Margaretha with more information and she discovers Claybrook's evil plan for her family. She and Colin work together to foil the plot, against great odds, and not surprisingly, they fall in love along the way.

I finished reading . . .

The Princess Spy by Melanie Dickerson - I finished this at the beginning of the week, but have been much too busy to sit down and write a review yet. This is not based on a specific traditional fairy tale but features a younger sister of the heroes of two previous novels (The Fairest Beauty and The Captive Maiden), and there's also a connection to The Merchant's Daughter. Full review coming soon!

I'm currently reading . . .

My Heart Belongs in the Shenandoah Valley: Lily's Dilemma by Andrea Boeshaar - Mac has purchased land that once belonged to Lily's family and his heart is drawn to Lily, but it seems like there are too many obstacles in the way of their relationship.

The Elusive Miss Ellison by Carolyn Miller - I needed to start something new on my Kindle, and thought maybe it was time to get back to the Regency era.
