Bookshelf Review - December 2016 on Just A Second @ JustASecondBlog.blogspot.com

December's Books Completed and Reviewed

The Reckoning (Legacy of the King's Pirates) (Volume 5) by MaryLu Tyndall - A daring pirate of the 17th century and a skeptical modern woman are the main characters in this time travel fantasy. (Read my full review HERE.)
Whether or not the lady was insane or she actually did travel through time, he would not - no could not - set her free in Charles Town. No in that nest of pirates.

Bees in the Butterfly Garden (The Gilded Legacy)by Maureen Lang - Meg wants to become a thief like her late father, and Ian wants to protect Meg from that kind of life as her father had wished. (Read my full review HERE.)
Meg felt almost sorry for Ian, seeing his genuine dismay over her decision to pursue the way of life that was so obviously her only choice. She hadn't expected him to resist so vehemently; after all, she was only validating his own choices by offering to join his ranks. What could he find wrong in that?

During December I started reading:

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen - My review of Klassen's latest will post soon. It's an intriguing story about a young widow trying to keep the inn her husband left to her in business, despite many challenges.
Vacancy . . . Vacancy . . . That sign had hung there more often of late. And the word perfectly symbolized how Jane felt. Empty.

From Heaven: A 28-Day Advent Devotional by A.W. Tozer - I started reading this collection of devotionals mid-December so didn't finish before Christmas, but have found much to think about anyway.
Brethren, let us treasure this: God sent His Son to the people. He is the people's Savior. Jesus Christ came to give life and hope to people like your family and like mine.

During December I shelved:

The Tea Planter's Wife: A Novel by Dinah Jefferies - I just wasn't passionate enough about reading this during such a busy time of year. I have a feeling I would have been able to finish it if I'd started during a less hectic time.

Coming Up in January!

The Mark of the King by Jocelyn Green - my next Bethany House review title
A Curious Beginning (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery) by Deanna Raybourn - re-reading before the second in the series arrives
A Perilous Undertaking (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery) by Deanna Raybourn
Sanditon by Jane Austen
Lady Susan by Jane Austen

  2. Your books always have such gorgeous covers. Yes December is a busy month and sometimes a book just doesn't make the grade because we are busy and distracted. All the best for 2017.
