Scripture and a Snapshot - Sprout Up

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to sprout up before all the nations.

~Isaiah 61:11~

Recent Reads - Treacherous Is The Night

Treacherous Is the Night (A Verity Kent Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber - Verity and Sidney are still adjusting to being together again after Sidney had been assumed dead in the Great War for almost four years, and his surprise return during the opening book in this series. Verity fears revealing some of her secrets from the years she believed herself a widow will erode their relationship further, and the after-effects of war are still haunting Sidney. Against this backdrop, Verity is drawn into a new mystery when a she accompanies a friend to a seance and receives a very suspect 'message' from the medium.

Since the message supposedly came from one of Verity's secret service contacts, she immediately suspects that someone has revealed sensitive information, and that the contact, Emilie, may not be dead but in danger. When she returns to confront the medium and finds the house up in flames, her suspicions seem confirmed that something bigger is at play and she determines to go to Belgium and find Emilie and get to the bottom of what is happening. Sidney accompanies her, and the two of them must decide who can be trusted and which of the confusing leads are worth following. Along the way, Verity must also confront her past and reveal her secrets to Sidney.

The search for Emilie and for the truth about what happened is set against the backdrop of post-war Europe, and I found some of the historical context surprising and heart-rending. The relationship between Verity and Sidney is complex and dynamic, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they continue to develop in future adventures!

I read an Advance Uncorrected Proof of this recently released title. It was released September 25th, and is now available through Amazon.

Scripture and a Snapshot - Sons and Daughters

Then our sons in their youth
will be like well-nurtured plants,
and our daughters will be like pillars
carved to adorn a palace.

Blessed is the people of whom this is true;
Blessed is the people whose God is the LORD!

~Psalm 144:12, 15~

Wordless Wednesday - Some of Southern Ontario

This post contains affiliate links.

After all the Niagara Falls photos I've shared, I figured I should showcase a few things other than the falls that we saw on our most recent Ontario trip.

This is Mohawk Chapel in Brantford. It was the first Protestant church in Upper Canada, I believe.

And a couple pictures from Port Dover, a little resort town on Lake Erie.

There are other things besides the falls and those kitschy tourist places in the town of Niagara Falls. We visited some of the gardens.

Scripture and a Snapshot - My Heart Trusts

Praise be to the LORD,
for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.

~Psalm 28:6-7~

Wordless Wednesday - Niagara Falls

A Niagara Falls PhotoJournal Part I on Homeschool Coffee Break @ kympossibleblog.blogspot.com

We were on vacation for a few days at the end of August, and packed an awful lot into those days. We were in southern Ontario, where we have spent lots of time, since that's where my husband is from and we visit his family there a couple times every year. This visit was a bit different because we met my sister and my niece and took them around to do some sightseeing. On my sister's wish list of places to see was Niagara Falls. We have been there many times, but it's so beautiful that we never tire of it. We actually spent two days there. We drove down on Thursday morning, spent the afternoon looking around on the Canadian side, then crossed back into the US and met my husband's sister and brother-in-law at a hotel on the New York side. We had dinner together and then we went to see the falls from the American side in the evening. We stayed the night on the New York side, and the next morning we headed back to Canada for the adventure we were all looking forward to - a cruise to the base of the falls with Hornblower Niagara Cruises!
